Installing your Turf
Install your lawn immediately upon returning to the project. Begin watering the lawn within 30 minutes after installation. Sod is a living plant that requires ground contact and moisture to survive.
Begin Installing the sod along the longest straight line, such as a driveway or sidewalk. Butt and push edges against each other tightly without stretching. Avoid gaps and overlaps. Stagger the joints in each row in brick-like fashion, using a large sharp knife to trim corners.
Avoid leaving small strips at the outer edges as they will not retain moisture. On slopes, place sod across the slope. To avoid causing indentations or air pockets, avoid walking or kneeling on the sod while it is being installed or just after watering.
During the first three weeks, avoid heavy concentrated use of your new lawn. This gives the roots an opportunity to firmly knit with the soil, and insure that the turf will remain smooth.
Watering Tips for your New Lawn
Give your new lawn at least one-inch of water within a half hour of installation. Water daily or more often, keeping sod moist until firmly rooted – this typically takes about two weeks. Then, less frequent and deeper watering should begin.
Weather conditions will dictate the amount and frequency of watering. Be certain that your lawn has enough moisture to survive hot, dry, or windy periods.
Roots will seek moisture as the roots grow deeper and the watering interval will become longer. It may take two years to establish a six-inch roots.
